Dan Swartwout is General Counsel at MoreSteam. In that role, he provides legal and strategic guidance across the company's operations. His work covers corporate governance, contracts, compliance, employment matters, risk management, and information security. As General Counsel, Dan supports MoreSteam's mission of building stronger problem-solving capability in organizations around the world.

Since joining MoreSteam in 2021, Dan has worked closely with leaders across the organization. He has helped support business growth, strengthen internal policies, and navigate the legal and operational challenges that come with a rapidly evolving technology and regulatory landscape.

Dan began his legal career at Jones Day as an associate in the Labor and Employment Practice. He later served as a law clerk to the Honorable Roger L. Kline (Retired) on Ohio's Fourth District Court of Appeals. Before joining MoreSteam, Dan worked as both a solo practitioner and a freelance attorney. He holds a B.A. in Communications, magna cum laude, from The Ohio State University. Dan earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. While in law school, Dan served as the Note and Comment Editor of the Ohio State Law Journal. In addition to his legal credentials, Dan is an experienced communicator, interviewer, and public speaker. From 2007 through 2024, he served as Studio Audience Host for the Ohio Lottery's game show Cash Explosion. Beyond that, Dan hosted the podcast CBuzz, which was a collaboration between the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, WWCD 92.9, and the Columbus Dispatch. On CBuzz, Dan interviewed some of the most prominent entrepreneurs in Central Ohio. Most notably, though, Dan spent nearly two decades as a nationally touring standup comedian. During his standup career, Dan worked with comedians such as Nikki Glaser, Nate Bargatze, and Bert Kreischer. Dan also taped a DryBar comedy special, released a comedy album that reached the Top 40 on the iTunes comedy charts, and has been played thousands of times on SiriusXM radio. Dan has appeared on numerous radio and television programs across the country, including a comedy performance on HGTV’s House Hunters. And for many years, Dan appeared on Central Ohio TV shows to fire up Buckeye fans before the Ohio State-Michigan football game.

Dan puts his communication skills to use as the host of MoreSteam’s podcast, Quality Time with MoreSteam. The podcast focuses on continuous improvement, operational excellence, and Lean Six Sigma. By interviewing practitioners and thought leaders, Dan makes complex topics accessible through practical discussion and real-world examples. Dan recently passed MoreSteam’s Yellow Belt exam, and he believes the best continuous improvement starts with people. That means respect, thoughtful problem solving, and building environments where everyone can do their best work.

Outside of MoreSteam, Dan is deeply committed to public and community service. He has served as Mayor, Vice Mayor, and member of City Council for the City of Powell, Ohio. While Mayor, Dan was on the executive board of the Central Ohio Mayors and Managers Association. He is a current member of the Olentangy Rotary Club and previously served on the Board of Trustees for the Deaf Services Center.
