When to use this tool

Use the Input Screening Report to assess the significance of process inputs (X's) connected with a project in a systematic way, and to record any important information about them, as well as their corresponsing data collection and control plans.

How to use this tool in EngineRoom

  • Select Input Screening from the Measure section in the DMAIC menu OR the Quality Tools section of the Standard menu.
  • Click the Launch button to open the template in a new window.
  • Enter a name for the project and the process output that is impacted by the inputs being tracked.
  • Identify the process inputs (Xs) and the associated process steps.
  • Identify from what source each X was identified (e.g. Process Map, FMEA).
  • Identify the test that will be used to assess the significance of the X (e.g. Hypothesis Test).
  • Collect data and run the tests.
  • Indicate whether or not the results are significant and record any notes relevant to the input.
  • Indicate whether the input (X) will be part of a Data Collection plan - you can insert a link to that document in this column.
  • Indicate whether the input (X) will be part of a process Control Plan - you can insert a link to that document in this column.

Note: The Input Screening Report can be used as a stand-alone template or can be populated from a Cause and Effect Matrix or Fishbone Diagram.
